‘Two parties set fire on the vehicle of a press, on the day of bandh……’ That was an anecdote of what was broadcasted from a National News Channel. I was taken aback in the most amusing manner. What the heck? I thought to myself… I have heard twice or thrice about ‘No Press Freedom’ or ‘Press Violation’ in Nepal but today, it felt utmost different. My eyes took the news hard to believe and my heart deceived the fact, harder. My heart was averting me from the slightest thoughts of my encounter on the television. I saw the aftermath burn of the vehicle, and it occurred to me like my heart was trying to water the imaginary burnt area left by the burn on the hole of my heart.
The tactics of Political Leaders work while asking for votes and giving high notch speeches. However, making Constitution for them seems to be another chapter. Tomorrow (28th May)is the deadline for our (Nepal’s) Constitution and we aren’t hitting anywhere near to a successful and hopeful New Constitution. For two years in a row, we don’t have Constitution (excluding some months and days). Last year supposedly was the deadline, but even the extra added time-line seems to have wasted in vain. We aren’t expecting a New Constitution tomorrow at all but adding another 365 days or so, for the Constitution to be made. It cannot be said but who will know how severely the Press be pressed?
