A Questionnaire Adam

In a far away land, there is a small village called the Apple village. The village is very popular for apples. When you taste an apple from the Apple village, you won't like to eat any other apple at all. Every family grow apple trees in their yard and some also do the apple business. In the same village, there lived a family, family of Adam, Adam-the questionnaire. Adam is a boy of eight, but his astute questioning amazed the villagers leaving them dumbstruck. However,Adam is also the boy who don't like apples. Mischievous though, he is very enthusiastic in whatever Mr. Smith taught in the class. He follows everything Mr.Smith teaches.

1, 2, 3…..1, 2, 3…..God, the tree is tall, I cannot reach it. Why of all the trees, this tree is tall? May be, father cannot reach there too. Even though he is very tall, the tree is much taller… Why do trees grow up like that? Why can’t a small tree bear fruit? Jerry can easily walk onto these trees when Tom chases him. How will it possible for me to do?  Something should be done. Just like how Jerry walks, I may be helped too. What Mr. Frankie does when he picks apples? How, Mrs. Granger is able to make apple pies for she has to pluck apple? He thought and thought for a while….May be I should ask someone for help.
The wrist watch that Adam was wearing strikes six. He walked past the red- greenery view and the gentle air so cool felt pleasant… Mr. Frankie’s yard is vividly visible… Adam thought, I should ask Mr. Frankie.
“Good evening, Mr. Frankie…..Can I ask you something?”
“Evening, Adam. What brought you here?”
“How can I pluck some apples? The tree of my yard is too tall…”
“Ha ha….Adam, all apple trees are tall. Well, how about having one from mine?  Here eat this; I plucked it a few minutes ago.”
“Thank you Mr. Frankie. Can’t you tell me how you pick apples?”
“No, boy…I wish to tell you but I am running late. I will tell you later. I have to go sell these apples first. I’ll tell you some other time.”

The apple, finely red was deliciously tasty. I don’t know why I never liked the red-colored fruit. I should have known from the beginning when father and mother insisted upon eating apples. But I never listened to them and averted, when they asked me to eat one. I liked to eat more… I want to pick one from my own yard by myself.  Mrs. Granger might be preparing dinner now. I think she can tell me how to pick.

“Hello Adam. Good evening. How can I help you?”
“Mrs. Granger, can you tell me how do you pick apples to make apple pies?”
“Usually Mr. Granger picked apples…. So, why don’t you ask Mr. Jason to help you pick some?”
“Father and mother have been to town early this morning. They will come late at night.”
“I don’t have apples right now, how about tasting my pie? It is almost ready, just needed to bake. I have no spare time so, can’t help you with the picking.”
“Thank you Mrs. Granger, I would love to try some other day, but today, I can’t.”

Both Mr. Frankie and Mrs. Granger are busy. Father and mother cannot help me either. I need some apples. Why are grownups so busy? Why can’t they rest for a while?? May be granny can help me.

“Granny, where are you?”
“Adam, do you need something? What’s the matter?”
“I need a help.”
“What kind of help?”
“Granny, I need to reach the apple tree. I need to have some apples. I asked Mr. Frankie and Mrs. Granger for help but both of them are very busy.”
“Oh, Adam….you never liked apples. But why is it all so sudden? You can eat oranges I bought this morning.”
“Granny, it has to be apples. Mr. Smith told us today that eating apples can make us strong. He said that we’ll never get sick if we eat an apple a day. So, I need to eat apples. Mr. Frankie gave me one but I have to pick one and eat.”
“Adam, it is; an apple a day keeps a doctor away. This means eating apples can keep you away from going to doctors.”
“What happens to the doctors then, if no one gets sick?”
“Nothing will happen to them. It is just that eating apples can prevent us from getting sick to some extent.”
“Only to some extent, Granny? It means we can get sick anytime.”
Laughs….. “Adam, eating apples is a good habit, one must adopt. Mr. Smith is making sure children like you, eat it daily. ”
“Mr. Smith is very clever Granny to have taught such valuable lesson…I am going to eat apples every day. Now Granny lets go help me pick some.”
“ Yeah,Mr.Smith is a good man.Let’s go…Adam!”
